ABOUT MARYAM BABANGIDA NATIONAL CENTRE FOR WOMEN DEVELOPMENT (MBNCWD)
The Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development (MBNCWD) is a Federal Government institution established in 1992. The Centre was modelled after the United Nations International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW), with the mandate to promote the advancement and development of Nigerian women through research, training, and advocacy.
At the core of the Centre’s mission are training and economic empowerment, which are fundamental to enhancing the quality of life of women, particularly those in rural communities. Through sustainable development programmes, the Centre strives to equip women with the requisite skills and opportunities to become productive, self-reliant, and active contributors to national development.
The application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), as well as vocational and entrepreneurial skill development, remains integral to improving the socio-economic status of women. Furthermore, the role of research is indispensable, as it provides the necessary data and analytical framework for identifying target groups, designing interventions, and formulating evidence-based policies for women’s advancement.
Accordingly, the Centre’s key areas of focus are anchored on Training, Research, and Gender Advocacy & Development, which collectively serve as the pillars upon which the mission and objectives of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, Abuja, are realized.
