ABOUT MARYAM BABANGIDA NATIONAL CENTRE FOR WOMEN DEVELOPMENT (MBNCWD)
The Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development (MBNCWD) is a Federal Government Institution established in 1992 and modelled after the United Nations International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW).
Training and Economic Empowerment of Women are critical to the realization of the mission of this center, as our focus is to improve the lives of women, especially those in the rural areas through sustainable developmental programs, so they can become productive and self-reliant.
It is important to note that Information & Communication Technology (ICT), Vocational & Entrepreneurial Skill Developments are imperative in enhancing the economic status of women, while the role of research is critical, as key target groups and data concerning women are sought and generated for intervention. These areas; Training, Research and Gender Advocacy and Development forms the key areas of focus in the National Centre for Women Development, Abuja.

It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we received the passing of one of our own former Director-General at the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development and Nigeria's musical icon, Lady Onyeka Onwenu. The legendary singer, songwriter, actress, and cultural ambassador left an indelible mark on the music industry, the arts, and the hearts of fans worldwide.
As Director-General of the Centre, from September 2013 to February, 2016, she repositioned the Centre as a Training Ground for women, children and the less privileged, while also Spotlighting the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). This brought about developing rehabilitation and reintegration programmes in the mainstream budget of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development in the three most affected States in the North East of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe. MBNCWD TRAINS 36 COMMISSIONERS OF WOMEN AFFAIRS ON GENDER EQUITY AND SUSTAINABLE WOMEN DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA
In line with the Renewed hope mantra of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to reposition women in governance and decision-making in the country, the Hon Dr Asabe Vilita Bashir, the Director-General of Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development in collaboration with UN Women and with the support of the Canadian High Commission has commenced a two-day capacity building for honourable commissioners from the 36 states of the country including the FCT as part of the second phase of the MBNCWD/UN WOMEN project on resource centres for Women in governance and decision-making in Nigeria.
It was a landmark achievement for the Centre as the Director-General delivered her welcome address during the opening ceremony of the two-day conference organised for the thirty-six commissioners of women's affairs today at the Banquet Hall in the Centre.

DR BASHIR EXTOLS LORD MAYOR ABIGAIL MARSHAL KATUNG, DECLEARS THAT HARD WORK PAYS
In an emotion laden reception for the newly elected Lord Mayor of Leeds City Council, the Hon Dr Asabe Vilita Bashir, the Director- General of Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development has stated that hard work pays as she extols the Councillor Abigail Marshal Katung- the newly elected Lord Mayor of the Great City of Leeds in United Kingdom.
The Director-General made this statement recently in her office when she receives in audience the newly elected Lord Mayor of Leeds City Council, Mrs Katung who before her academic sojourn in the United Kingdom did her mandatory one-year National Youth Service at the Centre.
Dr Bashir reiterated the need for the Centre’s staff to be committed to duty while describing the Lord Mayor as a great ambassador not only to the Centre but also to the entire nation having to campaign for and won the election in diaspora despite her colour. Read More
